Vixen Noir: blood and chocolate, and cucumbers
By Morgan, 25 August 2010

Vixen Noir gave an immensely strong performance at Laundromat (NSFW), so we’re really pleased to be able to show it online after the event. We love her work! We love her! Sit back (but don’t relax too much). Take a look, and find out why.

How did you get started as a performer?

i came outta my mother’s womb singing and dancing and been performing ever since

Clean or dirty?

definitely dirty! oh wait… clean! no no dirty for sure. who am i kidding, i’ve cleaned up. liar! dirty dirty dirty! oh hell i don’t know anymore!!!

You performed at Laundromat to Marianne Faithfull’s “Why’d Ya Do It?”, why did you choose that track?

’cause it’s dirty!

What do you get up to when you’re not being dirty?

plotting my course to superstardom!

What’s the dirtiest thing you ever did?

fucked some woman, no she fucked me, i barely knew in the dirty bathroom stall at a club in amsterdam. we were all over that toilet.

What’s your favourite vegetable?

cucumbers, ha ha ha ha ha…

What’s your favourite queer club night or event and why?

i must admit, i don’t get out much. otherwise, i’d have to say a date with true blood, popcorn and chocolate. yum yum yum!

You’re heading back to San Francisco for a while later this year (and hopefully coming back). What clubs and events could you recommend there?

i’ve been away too long! i couldn’t tell you about clubs. as for events, i’d have to say the following, just to name a few… fresh meat festival, frameline’s int’l lgbtqi film festival, national queer arts festival, san francisco pride parade and festival, folsom street festival, dyke march, trans march, queer women of color film festival, and sistahs steppin’ in pride.

See Vixen Noir perform at the Red Rattler Fangbanger Ball this Friday night, 27 August

Marty is into mechanics
By Morgan, 22 August 2010

Marty is the über talented guy behind the video projections at Laundromat, and we’ll be posting some of his video from the night very shortly.

Clean or dirty?

An even mix of both is present in almost everything I do. I enjoy going with the flow… there’s a time and place for each.

Video or photo?

In contradiction to what I do at parties, I love my Olympus OM2 and I’ve taken more photos as a hobby than shot video. I’m a sucker of all things old and enjoy the mechanics of film over digital. Recently I picked up a 2-megapixel digital camera just to emulate the look of shooting on film.

We really love your projections, including your work at Laundromat. How did you get started?

My work with video projections is only very recent. I got started last year when some friends asked me to join their prog-rock band Meniscus. This year I’ve be encourage to set-up video projections at parties around Sydney.

What’s the dirtiest thing you ever did?

It involved a very quiet night at Phoenix and the couches in the back room. Come to think about it… both bathrooms and the cool room can be add to the list. If you’ve ever seen Phoenix with the lights on, you’ll realise just how dirty everything about that place can be.

What do you get up to when you’re not being dirty?

Chillin’ at home with my partner Kel, usually on the couch watching the tube or playing video games.

What do you most like about the queer scene in Sydney?

It’s my home. I feel most comfortable around the queer scene, like minded kin, a friend vibe. In many various ways they encouraged me to get creative and also given me the opportunities to do my thing.

Atari’s a minimalist
By Atari, 12 August 2010

Clean or dirty? Atari Robot

Clean. (I’m a minimalist).

What do you most like about the queer scene in Sydney?

That there is a queer scene (I grew up in Perth). In fact, to be honest it took me a long time to discover and appreciate ‘queer Sydney’. I spent the better half of my first few years here lamenting how it wasn’t like Melbourne. But as I’ve learned, there are so many different ‘scenes’ here, and that I really love. We’re incredibly diverse and spoiled for choice. I’m particularly inspired by the talents of queer visual artists here in Sydney and am really excited about exploring these communities more through DIRTY mag.

What could improve?

An express bus, or any form of regular and reliable public transport for that matter, joining the gaybourhoods of the inner east and west together. That would be mighty swell. I hope Clover reads DIRTY’s blog.

What’s your favourite club night or event? And why?

If I had to pick one, I’d say the Witness Protection Program parties in Melbourne. I’m still in mourning since their finale, ‘Gym Bunny’ a couple of years back. They had brilliant themes, didn’t take themselves too seriously, played exceptional tracks and pulled a fun crowd. Trough is a close second, in part for its ridiculously hot homo promo photography. Bad Dog, Hot Rod and Hard On here in Sydney are also all onto good things…There’s clearly a theme emerging around rad music mixed with dress-ups.

Brian doesn’t believe in limiting himself
By Brian, 30 July 2010

Clean or dirty?

I’m a Libran, but a non-believing one. But I will say that I share the Libran’s trait for vacillating, and for examining all sides of an argument. So sometimes clean, sometimes dirty. Wouldn’t want to limit myself. (Plus being lukewarm is offensive to Our Lord, which is fine and dandy by me!)

What’s the dirtiest thing you ever did?

I sold secrets to Russia in the eighties: big expensive ones! I then used the money to build a time machine, travelled back to 1932 and poisoned Phar Lap, travelled forward to 1967 and drowned Harold Holt, then a travelled a bit further in time to 1991 and voted for a “Fightback!” era John Hewson. I was eleven at the time. Such a precocious little cunt!

What do you get up to when you’re not being dirty?

I masturbate compulsively while wasting time. This is known as “procrastibating”. I also steal other people’s jokes. (Hi Tim!)

What’s your favourite club night or event? And why?

“Whatever happened to S.A.R.S?”, the future-retro night that plays in my head whenever I’m stuck listening to shitty handbag, the type of music beloved by people who don’t actually like music. (Failing that, I love Buzz.)

What do you most like about the queer scene in Sydney?

Sydney will always have a dirty history, and the scene remembers the very best of that history – cheeky, flashy glamour and a tight knit community. “Larrikin camp.” We have the best parties and performers, and soon we will have the best venues. And I’m excited to be documenting and perhaps, in some way, fostering that.

What could improve?
We need more shopping centres, more gentrification, higher rents and we should give those nice Hillsong people some real political clout.

Morgan likes things simple
By Morgan, 30 July 2010

What’s your favorite destination for a dirty or long weekend?

In Australia, I don’t get away from Sydney enough, so I’m open to all sorts of suggestions. Somewhere on the ocean’s edge, with grinding waves, beating sun and outdoor pursuits would be fantastic. Like camping in Jervis Bay. Or dancing in Lismore and visiting Kings Beach, Byron at new year…

Outside Australia, there are too many cities in mainland Europe to choose from. Barcelona is my fave city that I’ve never lived in. Dirty, a bit smelly in Summer, but incredible character, beauty and charisma.

Clean or dirty?

I’m really not that dirty. I best like things simple and spontaneous. Occasionally with a camera.

What’s the dirtiest thing you ever did?

It involved a Berlin club, a French soldier and a toilet cubicle.

What do you most like about the queer scene in Sydney?

I spent over 4 months in Europe last year and loved it, but the queer Sydney scene was one of the things I most missed – with Bad Dog, Q Ball and Dirty, Kooky and Loose Ends high on my list. And new stuff like Hard On and Hotrod. Lots! They’re sexy, friendly, dirty and queer, and they’re open to men, women and everyone else. That seems to be something that’s rare and really hard to achieve.

Next time I head back to Europe, I’m going to have to explore more.

Xavier is often clean, but always dirty
By Xavier, 30 July 2010

What’s the dirtiest thing you ever did?

Depends what you consider dirty… I’ve fucked in Cenntenial Park, backrooms, countless toilet cubicles, on a church pew, been restrained in elaborate macramé, made out with another transboy while we both got hammered, I’ve fisted, sucked, spanked, spit roasted and fucked.

I guess I don’t really consider any of that dirty though. One time I got caught fucking behind the black plastic in the Dome at Mardi Gras.

Dirtiest place you have done it?

For the sticky factor, the back room of a sex shop

Clean or dirty?

Filthy

Are your sheets clean or dirty?

Often clean but always dirty

What underwear do you have on right now?

Black jocks

When you play dirty, what kind of play do you most get a kick out of?

It can be anything, it is all about the energy for me, but if I had to I’d say kink/ BDSM.

When was the last time you got down and dirty?

This morning
